Woody Species Removal

The removal of woody tree and shrubby species can often be achieved through mowing or pulling at the sapling stage.  Larger plants can often be controlled by fire, though most deciduous tree will not be completely eliminated by burning.  Generally, the most viable option is the selective cutting of the larger trees or shrubs.  Though most woody invasive species pose the greatest threats to savannas and woodlands, they can also aggressively attack unmanaged prairies, wetlands and shorelines as well.  Most exotic species, such as Buckthorn, will need an herbicide applied to the cut stump to eliminate re-growth.
