Prairies

Prairie plantings are a very effective solution for seeding large open areas when minimal maintenance and natural beauty are desired. The term “Prairie” has evolved to take on a very different meaning than its literal definition of “a large area of level, treeless grassland.” “Prairie,” as commonly used in modern day landscaping, seems to have taken on a role of describing an area restored to native grasses and wildflowers. Either way, a prairie is a plant community of herbaceous species that is made up mostly of grasses and forbs. Prairie is usally categorized into three different types based on height for landscaping purposes.
